ABOUT THE BLOG
Why?
This is my second edit for this 'About' page. The first one, when I set this page up back in 2019, was trying to be very... proper. It gave a bit of history and some other nonsense. But four years on (it's 2023 as I write) let's cut to the chase. I set this website up due to pettiness and a dislike of Facebook.
When I ‘retired’ in January 2018 my wife and I started to go on some proper holidays. Now of course we'd been on holidays before, but they were family holidays. We had to take the children with us which means looking after them and keeping them entertained. While these holidays might be okay for the children, for the adults, if they are doing their parenting job properly, they can be stressful and/or boring. We didn’t really go abroad, mostly it was day trips or the odd week in the UK somewhere. The reality was we had more important things to spend money on (like putting food on the table and keeping a roof over our heads) and spent 30 years going to work, raising a family as best we could and being responsible adults.

However after my retirement we started doing holidays for us. While on these I would write a daily post on social media with a few accompanying pictures of how that day had gone. This is the only thing social media should be used for. That and pictures of your dinner/pets or your pets eating your dinner. They weren’t shared with anyone else except our friends and family and literally dozens of people seemed to enjoy them! Anyway, after a trip to Morocco I put a video up on 'Facebook' and it had some music playing in the background, 'The Marrakech Express' (incidentally I do put a lot of thought in to the music for our holiday videos), and it got immediately banned by Facebook! So, all the stuff Facebook WILL allow and they ban MY holiday video shared with MY friends because of a copy-write issue with a 50+ year old song. As I said, pettiness and a dislike of Facebook.

So "Where's The Meat?" as they use to say in an American advert from the 80's which I never saw and shows the insidious nature of US culture. Those little social media posts have grown. The truth is that while my grammar and spelling are terrible I do like the writing process. I also think I'm funny and like to amuse myself. If I'm laughing while I write something about the day I've just had the chances are that someone else might also find it funny. So why not share it?
So that's it! It's just a holiday diary that some people, but more importantly I, find amusing. It helps me remember good times and encourages me to have some more. If it can do the same for you or just make you laugh or even smile then you're welcome.
