Tunisia, The Punic Tours, Day One: You’ve Been Laughed At By EasyJet (and me).
We’ve not been ‘feeling’ this holiday. Normally we’re looking at things to do, changing up holiday money (this always gets the holiday juices flowing) maybe buying new clothes but we’ve not done any of that. I also do a lot of research about where we’re going, interesting things like what is the countries main exports, but I’d not even bothered to do that… alright Tunisias main export is textiles and leather products.View from the seatSo feeling rather ambivalent we had lunch with the children (

I’d set our alarm for 5am as we need to be down at reception for pick up for 6:30 where apparently they’d have coffee and pastries waiting. There were quite a few people about so we played the game of trying to guess who would be going on our tour. A couple of elderly ladies went past, one sat on a mobility scooter, ‘definitely not them’ I confidently predicted.3rd biggest AmphitheaterOur coach arrived and in front of the queue was the mobility scooter! Turns out Jill (81) and Michelle (60) are

Tunisia, The Punic Tours. Day Two, Part 2: Carry On And Follow That Camel Toe.
After lunch and the Berber village we headed for Douz which is known as ‘The Gateway to the Sahara’. It’s an oasis but as usual Hollywood lied to you. Oasis’s are massive, Douz has 500’000 palm trees! The landscape changed dramatically the further south we traveled. We went from green well tended olive groves, millions of them, to scrub, to rocks, to sand. The sand in the Sahara is very fine it’s almost like dust and they have huge problems with it encroaching on everything. They’ve even tried p

Tunisia, The Punic Tours. Day Three, Part 1. Hangry Horse.
I initially thought the guide was joking when he said reception would phone our rooms at 4am, he wasn’t. I suppose it stopped any excuses like ‘My alarm didn’t go off’. Breakfast was food, after which we all got on the coach ready for what the day would bring. Lyn hasn’t had any tea at all this trip and was doing remarkably well but this morning might have been a step too far. A Sad SunriseStill dark we headed for a series of salt lakes. Unlike some of the other stuff I hadn’t got any preconceiv

Tunisia, The Punic Tours. Day Three, Part 2: Never Tell Me The Odds… Of A Coach Breakdown
Where did we leave it… Oh yes ‘Watch This!’ When we saw the 4x4 part of the tour this was more of what we expected. Jill was loving it and I think the driver was responding to the age old carnival tradition of ‘scream if you want to faster’. What we were heading for was the Star Wars film set.Excited middle aged man… and his wifeWe stopped at the top of a giant sand dune and took in the view. Below was a hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious. It’s ridiculous how much a bit of chicken wi

Tunisia, The Punic Tours: The Rest Of The Week: Life of Markie
It’s hard to believe that the last 4 entries were just 2 days! The whole point of this holiday was to sit by a pool or beach and do nothing, which is what we did the next day. It felt a bit strange, almost like starting the holiday from scratch. The hotel was nice enough, but now we’ve had time to explore and have a look around it defiantly isn’t 5 star. But then we hadn’t paid 5 star money. Overall though I think we got our money’s worth so can’t really complain. Chillin, Relaxing All CoolI ha
