Spanish Cruise October 2021

Prologue: 🎶 “Oh this year I'm off to sunny Spain y viva España“ 🎶

Everybody sing along! (for anyone under the age of 50 click here)

I started writing this intro several times and would then delete it. It was basically a self-indulgent moaning session about the last 18+ months but its not as if we weren’t all here. Anyway I don't want to think or write about it. Instead what I want to do is look forward by taking a lesson from the past.

After the Spanish Flu last century there was the Roaring Twenties! Flapper girls, Art Deco (my favourite kind of deco), and the Lindy Hop! It's now the 2020's and I would quite like to roar. But while the mind might be willing the body certainly isn't. Also I'm guessing a roar behind a mask might sound more like a yawn so maybe a bit too soon. I'll have to make do with standing on the promenade of the ship in my newly purchased tuxedo from China toasting confused people as they walk by.

In normaller (this should be a word) times we would have a little more choice of where to go. We have this week off every year as it’s Lyn’s birthday and our anniversary. As she says "I'm not flipping working on my birthday' but she doesn't say 'flipping'. We looked at a few options but Lyn, having initially resisted going on a cruise, now thinks they are the “bestest” type of holiday. She’ll get no disagreement from me on that.

The cruise is called 'Spirit of Iberia' and is on the same ship we went on last time, the Marella Explorer 2. I have tried to tempt Lyn with other cruise companies but I have a sinking feeling (getting my nautical puns in early) that cruising for her may be like food. She's tried Marella, she likes it, she doesn't want to try anything else thank you very much. To be frank that's probably why she's stayed married to me for 31 years. I've written a post about the different types of cruise companies and why we picked Marella. For anybody that's interested click here.

So what's the itinerary?:

Day One: Sail from Malaga, Spain

Day Two: Sea Day

Day Three: Valencia, Spain

Day Four: Ibiza Town, Ibiza

Day Five: Cartagena, Spain

Day Six: Gibraltar

Day Seven: Cadiz (for Seville), Spain

Day Eight: Malaga and home

There’s a lot of Spain there but given the ever changing rules and forms you have to fill in at the moment that’s probably a good thing. We’ve never been to any of these places so our ‘See/Do New Things’ holiday rule still applies. I don't have the descriptive skills to tell you how much we are looking forward to this but I’ll have a go…It's a lot!
