Spanish Cruise October 2021

Day Seven: Sushi, Sherry and Sadness.

For our last full day we were in Cadiz. Initially we hadn’t booked a tour but thought we might as well for our last day so we picked the sherry tour to Jerez.

It was a fairly short coach ride and our guide was pointing out various points of interest which might be where the phrase comes from. She then started talking about Spanish opening and meal times. I have no idea if this had any relevance to anything because I saw a shop, presumably a restaurant, called Sushi Panda. This name has layers of wrongness about it and might possibly be a bit racist. By the time I stopped thinking about this and started paying attention again we were out of Cadiz and our guide was talking about salt.

Jerez is the sherry capital of Spain except it’s not sherry it’s fortified wine and because it’s made from white grapes should be kept in the fridge. See, It’s not all wanking monkeys I like to educate as well (monkeys auto correct to mommies… good job I checked).

We ended up at Gonzalez Byass, maybe a big name in sherry I don’t know. What I do know is that it’s a very impressive facility and quite beautiful. The tour was very informative about the whole sherry process and ended up with a tasting session. My overwhelming impression of sherry is that it’s what my grandmother use to drink. I can’t get past this but if you like it then go to Jerez, you’ll be very happy.

We then had a rather pointless drive around Cadiz, by the way it’s pronounced Cadiz… I was going to leave this but back to educating the accent is on the A not the D. A coach tour is only really useful in an open top bus otherwise you can’t really take any pictures so once back at the ship we headed into Cadiz old town on foot.

Paintings, street food, photos, our normal things. Cadiz old town is very nice and we were grateful for the tall buildings which are designed to give lots of shade. It was getting to the high 20’s I’d hate to think what it’s like in summer when it’s in the 40’s.

When we got back to the ship we were immediately brought down as we spent nearly 2 hours trying to fill out the UK passenger location forms as the website is atrocious and kept crashing. It was then the sad task of checking cabin multiple times to make sure we hadn’t left anything behind and packing the suitcases as they needed to be left out that evening and the cabins vacated by 8am the next morning.

It’s Malaga and home now, very sad but we started thinking about out next adventure in January.
